Support from the communities we serve

  • June 1, 2020June 11, 2024

One very special reason to apply at Swedish is the support from the communities we serve. It’s an intangible benefit that goes far in terms of job satisfaction—hearing “thank you” from the ones we care for. And that community “thank you” has never been louder or more appreciated than during the COVID-19 crisis. We are feeling the love at all of our campuses; here’s a spotlight on Swedish Issaquah.

Meals for caregivers

After stay-at-home orders took effect, Michelle Enebo, an Issaquah-based photographer, wanted to support healthcare workers any way she could. At the same time, she saw many of her favorite local restaurants struggling to survive after moving to a takeout-only model. Enebo started a GoFundMe campaign to collect donations to fund meals for Swedish Issaquah caregivers tirelessly working around-the-clock to stop the spread of the virus.

Enebo was thrilled with the response—not just from people in her neighborhood but from supporters in surrounding areas. The GoFundMe was live from March 17 through late April, raising more than $58,000. That meant that Enebo was able to deliver 80 meals, twice daily, every other day, for the duration of the campaign and beyond—for a total of 4,000 meals and 1,000 snacks. The campaign supported 40 different local restaurants. Enebo shared the news about the deliveries on her community Facebook page to help keep the momentum going and was interviewed by several local news outlets, inspiring others in neighboring communities to start similar programs.

The best reward

Swedish caregivers receive best-in-class medical, dental and vision benefits, as well as tuition reimbursement, retirement plans and more. But the benefit we don’t typically list—support and care from our communities—is one of the best rewards, especially now. We cannot express our gratitude enough.
